Man, the more I use this knife, the more I love it and the more I love Entrek. The entire process took about 45 mins to test it out, then I got tired and hot and quit, so I guess the knife outlasted me.

Ya I Hate Paypal, you know I actually have $20 on my paypal account that I can’t take off or use’.damn it lol. I’m happy to say I Found another site that sells the Entrek Knives and I Ordered one. I Ordered the ‘Entrek Javalina Knife’ Figured You have the Survivor and Jeff Has The Badger so I Might as well get something different as well.

The areas in the video that are sped up are 300% faster, and it is chopped up a bit to make it fit in a 10 min video. But you got all the important parts, and the end result as well, which was a still hair shaving sharp blade with no nicks or dings in the edge. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest anyone interested get one. NOW. You will certainly love it. Good places to get them: Cheapest place: www.entrekusastore.com www.ennis-entrekusa.com (this is the company Entrek USA, check here for their product line then search for it, lemme know if you need help finding one that you want.) Wondering why the edge lasted so long (and by the way, is still sharp after using it more tonight to make a pressure flaker, and an ish stick). So was I, this is what Ray Ennis had to say about it: ‘The reason our 440C performs so well is that we spend the money to have them sub-zero stabilized (quenched) This process actually costs more than the heat treat itself. You will find that most companies only are concerned with making the knife as cheap as possible so the owners, and if they have any, the investors make more money. That is why so many knives are made overseas. In other words money is the reason they make knives. I on the other hand I make knives ‘ Video Rating: 4 / 5.

If your friend or family member is someone who would rather choose their own knife, you don’t have to despair of finding a great gift for him or her. Simply look for nice accessories. This can be a nice sheath, a care kit, or a sharpener.

When looking for good Knives online, keep in mind that it is important to work with a trustworthy site ‘ just as you would when buying anything over the internet. Look up reviews for the site and its products. This will allow you to be confident that the knife is of high quality and that the store will work with you to get what you need.

For someone who loves Knives or has a collection of them, knife sharpening tools are great accessories. Knife sharpening tools come in a variety of forms, so it’s important to know which type will fit the recipient’s needs best.

This specific knife is classified as a fixed blade. Most hunting Knives usually can be found in this model but you will find also folding ones informal outdoorsmen prefer. The attractiveness of the knife like this is there is certainly nothing that covers the blade.

Versatile is one phrase to describe Gerber LMF II. Military personnel can use it to chop through the skin of a fuselage or egress through the Plexiglas of the helicopter. Survival and outdoor aficionados can use it to chop lumber or develop a shelter. This really is one knife that will stand up to almost any survival situation you’ll be able to consider.

It includes a separate sheath and you will find no moving parts in any way. The straightforward style tends to make it a whole lot stronger than folding sport Knives and the blade alone is sturdy. For these particular reasons on Your Own, Gerber LMF II is often the better choice if you would like a professional hunting or survival knife.

When hunters and sportsmen are working on all kinds of animals, they will need to use the sharpest Knives they can find. Even catching a fish can be difficult if the blade is too dull and they cannot even slice the bell. While these people are moving around in the wilderness, it is important that they have the best blade available.

It is important to prepare yourself well before you go to the hunting grounds. The next time you go to the lake or hills, you will need to pack a reliable blade. There is nothing worse than struggling to skin or slice an animal and not being able to accomplish that. Hunting Knives are great tools that are made to search for wild game, but just as you should care for the body, the hunting Knives should be cleaned and oiled regularly to maintain the prime condition.

If hunters are located miles away from the closest road or city, all they have to do is jump into a car and look around the city for another knife.

buck knives or fixed blade knife. These are normally the two kinds of knives. A lot blades have obtained to the name belonging to the person or company that created them.

For example, a ‘Bowie Blade’ has been around for various months and is well identified by its name and common similarities. Still, knives that contain a particular name, including the ‘Bowie’ cutlery are also popular by what they’re made use of for. An example would be a hunting device, fishing knife, or tactical cutlery. Tactical Folding Knives Schrade Knives are sometimes held in pant pockets, and are regularly recognised assuch. They may be obtainable in countless different patterns, and quite often contain different blades for numerous uses. They make perfect tactical knives. A cutter for every thing. They can be in most cases legal to have as long as the edge is fairly little. Close to four inches in most locations. They’re less dangerous and far more favorable than the fixed blades. Folding knives use a rotate point and ordinarily contain a shut mechanism, which allows the dagger to close into the handle only when unlocked. Folding knives are for sure, by design, not as powerful as fixed blade knives. They may be a popular standard purpose tool and are utilized substantially for backpacking and hunting. They tend to be alot more compressed and lighter, permitting them being effortlessly beared and concealed. The ‘Switchblade weapon’ is often a spring-action blade, snap-blade device, or any other blade having the form of the pocketknife. They typically use a blade two or more inches lengthy that can be released straight away by a flick of a device, pressing to the handle, or some other mechanical action or equipment. So, a pocket knife without any kind of ‘auto release’ would not be considered a ‘switchblade knife’. Custom Hunting Knives Fixed blades never fold. They’ve either a full tang, or a stick tang that makes them very stout and confident. Fixed blade knives are often a little more historical and greater over-all, which totals for the safety of your device along with the potency. This strength and durability makes them the knife of choice for exterior use. They almost at all times come with a sheath to protect the blade and to permit hauling the knife in a secure manner. In truth, they may be recognised as ‘sheath knives’. Fixed blade knives really don’t have to be oiled like folding blades, and you should not will want to be cleaned as regularly. Fixed blade hunting knives mostly have no moving parts, which means that you simply will not likely invest time within the field tightening screws or fine-tuning springs. A tactical, self-defense, or combat blade is frequently developed for convenience and hardness. It have got to be a workable device, and is created to stand up towards the suffering of specific procedures. After all, it will possibly be required to spear the evening meal, cut firewood, slice through the skin of an airplane fuselage, or shatter the glass of your heli-copter. It ought to stand up towards the most drastic situations. In short, it may possibly be the last line of safety. A tactical knife is normally a total tang fixed blade, even so, not all are fixed blade. Also, hunting blades and tactical knives are normally put to use interchangeably. Quite a few with the exact same requires and applications can be found for both the hunter and the hunted. Whether folding knife, or fixed blades, whatever your demand might possibly be, a fantastic custom blade would likely be the explanation.
So often a knife, whether it be a folding knife or fixed-blade, is judged by the heft as an indicator to determine quality and robust build. Aside from the ability of the blade steel to take and retain a sharp edge, the weight of a knife is a sign of value and strength. The 530 defies this measure of worthiness, and stands separate from the countless pig-stickers sold in blister packs at big box stores and strip mall liquor stores display cases around the country.

A thoughtful feature that also makes the 530 versatile is the ability to set it up for left-handed carry by reversing the spring-steel pocket clip and using the pre-drilled holes on the opposite side handle shell. Another nice feature is the lanyard hole that is large enough to thread a section of 550 cord through. And if Benchmade wanted to reduce the weight on the 530 even more, perhaps to boast a lead position in the ‘less than two-ounce knife category,’ they could shave a couple thousands of an inch off the carry clip and use titanium screws to reduce weight even more. Ah, but what’s the point.

At such a light weight, the 530 could be misjudged. But that would be a mistake. The design is straight forward, and the weight is negligible, but the cutting power, edge retention, the bank vault AXIS locking mechanism, and ability to take the cutting instrument apart for cleaning all get high marks for the quality built into the 530 Pardue.

As Id be carrying this as an E.D.C. (E.very D.ay C.arry) I didnt want it to look scary and I didnt want it to attract immediate attention since the last thing that you want to happen to you when you need to do something (like make a cup out of a bottled water bottle or cut the twine off of a package) in public is to have everyone around you freak out. If I had been considering this as a knife for mainly camping, then Id have gone with a brighter colour in case I dropped it while out rock scrambling.

The knifes name is highly appropriate as everywhere you could possibly want to grip the knife theres either a chequered or ridged surface. You can even hold the knife in a scalpel grip (handy for doing some fine detail work if youre carving wood or cutting paper) and still be in contact with a ridged surface. I can imagine that Ill still be able to hold on to this knife when my hands are cold and/or wet or slightly coated with a little road grease (although if possible Id prefer them not to be covered in water or coated with road grease just in case). In fact the interesting thing is that even though the clip is found on other knives made by Benchmade, the clip is built in a manner that doesnt seem to adversely effect my gripin fact during opening the edge of it provides my fingertips a very nice place to hold on to while the blade swings out (if youre left handed youll have to flip the clip to the other side of the knife for the same sort of benefit).

I thus decided on the least military looking, and least eye catching combination of colours that I could find. So that meant finding one with a drop point and non-coated edge (they offer it in BK-1, the black anti-reflective coating) with a either black or sand coloured handles. So I got it in a rather generic build of drop-point, combination plain and serrated blade (I might need to cut rope/twine/grip tape/etc and the serrations are just better at that), with thumb stud, and black handles.

It’s because I got to dislike its deep edge geometry and its thin and contoured handle. The shallow edge geometry of regular Fox River can go sharper surely and easily, and its non contoured handle is more preferable.

I am now thinking of the thickness of liners. The handle with liners is thicker than regular handle.
Huge knives can be found in any configuration sought after. There are the more typically shaped bowies like the Cold Steel Trailmaster and Recon Scout. Ka-bar’s Becker line is superb quality for for a lower value.

Big knives can be utilised for the large work that a Fallkniven F1 or equivalent dimension knife just can not do with any facility, but can still handle most of the smaller, finer employment that the little knives do. They can be utilised for any variety of major function, this kind of as chopping, batonning, clearing branches, and these. Batonning (splitting small to medium chunks of wood by driving the knife through the wood with a wooden baton) is made easy by a more time blade, particularly if the grind is appropriate. A more time, heavier knife tends to make chopping a breeze. Sure, it might not be as easy as chopping with an axe, but a knife is a whole lot simpler to carry. An executed worker can do most all of the tiny employment as well. A Busse might not cleanse a fish as properly as a Buck Vanguard, but it will still do the job and works immensely much better for shelter creating and procuring firewood. The best option is to just carry a folder or a tiny fixed blade alongside with a chopper.

The Becker BK-9 and BK-7 are wonderful choices and the favorites of many outdoorsmen. The Ka Bar Bowie Knife and related knives aren’t really the significant chopper-type of knife, but they are still significant ample to do some chopping and splitting and have a excellent history. The Ka Bar Bowie Knife in equally its measurements has a excellent track record for an economical huge knife. Busse Knives, Ferhrman, and these firms are really very good quality, but you certainly spend for what you get. If you can afford them, however, there aren’t a lot of knives greater. Another selection for the significant knife class is a quick machete. A 10-12′, perhaps even 14′ machete from a excellent organization like Condor, Tramontina, or Ontario will do the task properly and for really minor money, specially the Tramontina.

@EasternGateGuardian If you mean wood working in the sense of carving, notching, planing etc’ this knife was not made for that use. Its size would prevent detailed handling for such tasks. Carving chisels are what you would want and they are not made of San Mai III as it is not necessary.

@SFODDshadow Hard to comment on Busse as I have never used/reviewed it, but I have heard good things about Busse. The problem, as you mention, is the price. This is probably due to their proprietary steel INFI which they claim has all the good properties with no tradeoff of edge retention, hardness, toughness and maleability, ease of resharpening, wear resistance, etc’ Hard to imagine. I am sure it is a fine knife, but as you point out you could buy 2 of the CS Trailmaster for the price.

Theoretically, I don’t see any reason why San Mai III could not handle the task if used in a tool of proper form and shape for wood-working, but you will never see that as it would be unecessarily expensive.

Even though my Busse Knives collection is quite large, I still keep getting his knives here and there. Not because I feel an urge to have every single one of his models, which is fine and perfectly understandable for a knife collector, but I don’t collect like that, which is also fine. So, anyway, like I said, once in a while a new model pops up and I can’t deny myself the pleasure of having it.

As for the rest, the blade has very nice satin finish to it. Initial edge on the knife is 40 included, which is what Busse combat usually puts on their hard use knives and more often on their not so hard use knives too. Plus it is their recommended edge angle. Personally, I think 40 is too thick for many knives and cutting jobs, however that number is the makers recommendation and unless you feel you have enough experience with sharpening and INFI steel it’s better left alone, which doesn’t mean you have to abandon the blade maintenance It means leave the original edge angle alone and use it that way. Once you get the feel what the knife and INFI can do, and then experiment with it.

By the way, Jerry and crew are quite productive in producing wide variety of the different models. So, that happened with the Boss HG55 as well. The other day I saw the announcement on bladeforums.com Busse sub-forum and few days later when it became available I went for the LE(Limited Edition) HG55. By the way I got lucky that time, as usual it is quite some time between the announcement and the actual knife sales. As usual LE-s go for sale first, and at this time I was more interested in LE version, so I’ve forked out 397$, well, plus shipping , and the knife was mine, if I am not mistaken in a week or so. For the stats, my LE is #8.

Knives forged in the Honyaki style are made of a high carbon steel and forged completely of one material. Kasumi-forged knives are made from steel and soft iron that is forged to make the knife.

Unlike other types of knives, these special knives are built to be lightweight and are notable for their fine edge. This makes a Japanese knife to be extremely sharp and useful. The distinct curvature at the edge of this Wusthof Santoku knife gives the chef better maneuverability so cutting becomes safer and incredibly easy. Sculpted from an 18/10 stainless steel, this knife is guaranteed to last longer than your other knives in the kitchen.

Never make messy slices again with the Deli Pro Knife As Seen On TV. Thick or thin, the Deli Pro slices evenly and neatly every time.

Deli Pro is great for slicing meat, vegetables and fruits. Even works on hard-to-slice cheeses and breads. It is so simple and ingenious you will make perfect slices in seconds with almost no effort. Cooking knives, serving knives, and kitchen knives in general are difficult to master. Without years of experience and the blessing of a steady hand and eye, it’s nearly impossible to consistently cut even, good pieces of meat, fruit, or any other type of food. But the Deli Pro Knife solves your slicing problems because unlike ordinary kitchen knives, this carving knife is one of a kind. It has a steel guide that rests up against the edge of the food. You can quickly adjust the thickness of the slice of cut with the knob at the side. When you cut downward, the steel guide keeps your desired thickness consistent as your slice downward back and forth. None of the other Meat Carving Knives have a guide that keeps the cuts straight every time. This delipro deli knife works great with meats, fruits, or vegetables. You can even slice certain types of hard breads. With the deli pro knife you can do away with other kitchen knife sets. This single kitchen knife that never needs sharpening takes the place of a bread knife, deli knife and carving knives. Now you can create perfect party platters and appetizing sandwiches in seconds without risking cutting your fingers or going through the embarrassment of sloppily prepared cuts of food. The Deli Pro Knife saves you time and energy, creating kitchen-deli miracles is possible.

The best on the market is the Piranha Electric Carving Knife, priced at or around $39.95 which is available online at Chef Depot. The knife is touted as useful for Carving turkey or filleting fish. Its one caveat is its short cord ‘ not something that is going to reach across the entirety of most kitchen (unless you live in NYC). Also check out the Black and Decker SlimGrip which retails for less than $20. It gets the job done without breaking the bank.

On the low-end is the Ginsu International Traditions 2-Piece Stainless Steel Carving Set that retails for $12.95 or the Jamie Oliver Carving Setwhich comes with a nice middle of the road Carving knife that has a smooth sharp thin blade edge that feels balanced in your hand so you have complete control. This design was developed and patented in 1928 by Granton Ragg. The Granton design is normally found on Meat Carving Knives but have recently appeared on other types of kitchen knives, especially Western variations of the Japanese santoku.

The indentations require a certain thickness so they are more frequently used on thicker, softer blades rather than on thin, hard ones. This particular design on kitchen knives is an attempt to ease the cutting and separation of meats, cheese and vegetables.

There are two ways to find this out. Take a post-it note, fold it corner to corner to give you a triangle. Take the newly formed folded edge and fold it again to the bottom.

Refinement has been so ongoing and continual Spyderco tagged the updating/upgrading process with the term CQI- Constant Quality Improvement. During the Endura and Delica’s CQI journey Spyderco tweaked ergonomics, refined blade steels and fine-tuned their performance countless times. They are an evolutionary work in progress and the next level is here with the new Endura4 and Delica4. Both models now have screw construction making cleaning and adjusting easier. The fiberglass reinforced nylon handles come molded with Bi-Directional Texturing for preferred traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners make the knife stronger without adding weight and make an anchor for all external and internal components to attach through adding sturdiness and rigidity. Their VG-10 blades are flat saber-ground with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip.

The result is an austenitic steel that does not require heat treatment, gets harder and tougher with use and is absolutely impervious to rust. Spyderco‘s Pacific Salt combines this amazing blade material with our best-selling Endura folder design to yield a versatile mariner’s knife that is completely at home in the water.

The Pacific Salt’s blade tip is slightly rounded for increased strength and its large 14mm Round Hole makes one-handed opening easier with gloved or wet hands. All other steel components of the Pacific Salt have also been specially treated to make them impervious to rust and pitting. The black fiberglass-reinforced-nylon handle has Volcano Grip texturing to ensure a slip-free grip, and a strong back lock mechanism with David Boye’s locking lever dent provides secure, reliable blade lock-up. A reversible black titanium pocket clip supports left or right-side tip-up carry and a hole through the clip attachment screw also allows attachment of a lanyard when using the knife around water.

A curved edge means a great deal of cutting power. My Spyderco Dodo is my best hard wood cutter for example. My two Shabarias came razor sharp and my arm’s hairs were flying with just a caress of the edge.

‘Israeli knife designer, Eduard Bradichansky, co-mingled the Shabaria’s traditional utilitarian profile into a modern folding knife. Mr. Bradichansky was a gunsmith and gifted jeweler by trade, new to the knifemaking community, but already attracting collectors and enthusiasts to his fresh design work and crafting skills. His career cut short, he fell victim to a terrorist attack on the West Bank.’ Eduard Bradichansky was also behind the design of the clever Spydercard we had reviewed with Fred Perrin back in the 90′s, so when the first Shabaria was released with an ATS 34 blade and a G-10 handle, back in the previous century, we were very excited to test this unique design. For us, it was an evidence: the Shabaria was a weapon and a great one ‘ lean and mean. The wasp handle or hourglass handle is not a new thing and thousand of people rely on this for eons . Once you grasp the knife you understand how it works and how clever the design of the Shabaria is. Our was partly serrated and really it was really made to be an Assassin tool. Now the Shabaria is back in a sprint run with a beautiful carbon fiber handle and a plain edge recurved VG10 blade. This is a very sexy knife. The blade is saber hollow ground, giving a substantial thickness which give you the identity of the knife: a piercing weapon. The penetration of the strong and thin blade is remarquable. Also the hour glass handle provides you with an additionnal inch of reach. Yes ‘mean and lean’ are the words which are still coming in mind .

Some pass on my razor leather and both knives were upgrade to vorpal status. VG10 is a great steel of EDC. The kind of steel which is forgiving and easy to bring back to peak performances. What the Shabaria’s design brings is a nice belly at the tip of the blade. This is really useful in everyday task. The recurve helps to catch the matter you cut and the positive and negative bellies works like a guillotine. This is a sprint run and limited edition I was really glad to see. As I thought the Shabaria was long gone and I missed it. The previous version got a lot of screws (six .) on the handle and this one is refined with only three screw including the pivot. Also that new version got a very nice improvment: now a lanyard hole is available. I really love those constant research in making the design better and better. The wasp handle is easy to clean with no skeletonized liners and an open construction. Also the beautiful CF handle is anchored in your hand but not with the help of a false guard but just by holding it. This is a very very secure grip. You need experience it. This handle design is as old as the Old Testament. Generations have been using them and people who counted on their knives everyday. Hammer grip, reverse grip, pikal grip’ everything works because the handle is pure symetry. Again this is the kind of knife which makes me smile once open. This is serious business.
The outside of the knife was surprisingly well constructed. The edges, holes and back-spacer has been finished very nicely, at a much higher standard than say the Carbon Fiber Lum we reviewed (also made in Japan) which had chipping around every hole drilled. The problem on this knife however isn’t as much cosmetic as it is mechanical.

Over all I am satisfied with the Massad Ayoob as a design curiosity but would not recommend the knife beyond that. The rivet construction and finishing on both inner liners will very likely cause some problems for owners who want to subject this knife to daily use, especially tasks that involve grittiness. As a self defense knife, I’m not convinced that it could be as reliably deployed under stress as a model with a liner or compression lock (lock backs have more resistance when opening) coupled with a larger diameter thumb hole or an assisted opener. With that being said I believe the geometry, once the knife is open, would perform as claimed.

The mating surface between the liner and the blade tang is very poorly finished. This part of the knife looks as though it has been crudely ground on a low grit wheel and there doesn’t appear to be any bushings visible between the liners and the blade. The result is a grinding and marking on the tang that is obvious when the knife is both open and closed. Something that is questionable on a knife that is marketed a collectors item and demanding a higher premium than other models. This construction could also be a bit problematic if the knife gets dirty. The handle, liner and spacer are held together with rivets making a total breakdown and cleaning out of the question. Add some dirt to the rough liner surface and you could have some operational problems. First of their kind on the market, both folders opened up the knife market to lightweight performance, one-hand open pocketknives that just about everyone could afford. They settled as Spyderco‘s top two bestsellers and their improvement hasn’t slowed since.

Closed, the Shabaria is also really beautiful. the kind of Syd Mead design for Tron’s lightcycles. It doesn’t scream ‘knife.’ and is a great impact tool. Because even with the blade closed, the grip on the hourglass handle is still very positive and is anchored in the palm of your hand.

RH Forschner by Victorinox is the knife of choice for professionals and consistently receives high accolades in product testing. This best-in-class commercial grade cutlery is now available for home use. RH Forschner by Victorinox knives feature high carbon, stainless steel blades, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen.

A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. A sure-grip handle with a finger guard is valuable feature since the handle inevitably gets greasy, wet, or both. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria. When Steak is on the menu, pull out this set of six Steak knives from Victorinox (model 88792), each of which features a pointed tip and serrated edge. Because the blades are stamped rather than forged the price is kept reasonable, yet the high-carbon, stainless steel is extremely durable and the ground, tempered edges maintain their razor-sharpness for a considerable length of time. The molded polypropylene handles provide a sure grip, have no grooves or rivets to harbor bacteria, and are dishwasher-safe. All in all, the knives are lightweight, very sharp, and designed to slice through meat with ease.
